Lama Thupten Phuntsok initiated the orphanage and school in 1998 with a handful of children. By 2005, when David and Diana first visited it had grown to 75 children though the facilities were very basic and crowded. Today, in a new education block built recently, over 200 children receive schooling from Kindergarten to year 12 and many more have progressed on to college education. FMVSO focuses especially on supporting the children's education both in school at at college.
